In 1959, 16 year old Manayunk resident, Maryann Mitchell was murdered after going to the Roxy Theater to see South Pacific. Mary Ann's body was found on the corner of Harts Lane and Barren Hill Road, Lafayette Hill. We should remember this young girl from our neighborhood. Absolutely fascinating - I remember reading about it when the murder happened. Apparently some of the more gruesome aspects of the case never made the papers (there was a coke bottle involved) The only saving grace is that I really think Maryann was knocked unconcious from the very beginning and died without knowing what was happening to her
